Le Cartable Rouge was created to respond to the needs of Francophile families in the Portland metro area and its surrounding neighborhoods.

My name is Vallye and I’m the founder of Le Cartable Rouge.

Growing up in a multilingual household, I discovered at a very young age the beauty and power of languages.

My father spoke Spanish with his friends and my mother spoke Russian with hers. It was a surreal experience growing up listening to them during gatherings.

Though my parents did not share with my siblings and I these languages they made sure that we spoke our African dialects first.

As an adult I made the conscious choice to learn two more languages on top of the dialects that were passed on to me.

Being able to speak more than one language has opened up doors that I would have never had access to otherwise and with that in mind I decided to create “Le Cartable Rouge”.

My goal in this program is to pass on the love I have for languages to my students at an early age and equip them with tools that will allow them to navigate the world with confidence and determination so that they will be able to trust in their own capabilities and reach their fullest potential.
